The Care Act

COURSE OVERVIEW

"The Care Act 2014 is the most significant change in social care law for 60 years. It applies to England and replaces a host of out-of-date and often confusing care laws."

This session will give learners a clear outline of the main areas of the 2014 Care Act.

Delegates will learn about the direction of social care in England and how the Social Care Act aims to deliver changes to how care and support is accessed and delivered.

The Care Act 2014 focuses on individuals being in control of care and highlights factors such as emotional, mental and physical well being as being key to achieving this.

COURSE CONTENT

The session will enable delegates to explore issues of:

• The ‘well being principle’
• Prevention
• Integration
• Information, advice and advocacy
• Safeguarding
• Assessment and eligibility
• Care and Support Planning, and other aspects of the act and discuss the relationship with the service delegates

The Care Act 2014 places the responsibility on local authorities to promote well being in everything that it does.

One of the aims of the course will be to promote group discussions on how the act can be integrated into service delivery.

Delegates will also work on exercises and scenarios to examine the changes required to meet the standards set out in the Care Act 2014 relevant to the service.
