Appropriate Adult
COURSE OVERVIEW
This one-day course will enable participants to understand the role of the appropriate adult and its importance in ensuring justice by protecting the rights of vulnerable detainees in police custody.
Participants will learn what information to gather and what action to initiate prior to attending the custody suite.
COURSE CONTENT
- Able to identify the role and responsibilities of the Appropriate Adult, along with advisable policies and procedures in relation
to the use of a legal advisor, transport of the detained person and accommodation in relation to bail conditions - Able to refer to relevant legislation, PACE Codes of Practice and other practice guidance in respect of the Appropriate Adult role
- An understanding of the role of the Appropriate Adult in promoting justice
- Able to identify and challenge beliefs, attitudes and practices in order to promote equality for individuals
- Effective monitoring and recording of the process
- Able to act as a competent Appropriate Adult in supporting and protecting the rights of those detained
