Mental Health Support for Managers Workshop

COURSE OVERVIEW

Mental Health problems are common, 1 in 4 of the population will experience mental health problems at any given time. Most commonly anxiety and depression are experienced by people and often go undiagnosed and ignored by those displaying symptoms. Staff working in health and social care services work with people who also experience symptoms of mental ill health and this places stress on the workforce which, if unrecognised can often develop into mental health problems. This course will enable Managers to understand a range of issues including:

  • How to recognise the signs of depression and anxiety in themselves and others
  • Recognising stress
  • The physiological and psychological signs of stress
  • How to promote good mental health and well being
  • Managing the symptoms of anxiety and depression
  • Long term strategies for reducing anxiety
  • What to do to support someone in mental health crisis

The course will also enable Managers to identify how to approach a person around their mental health issues and who to contact, including how to develop policies for safe and confidential management of issues relating to mental health.
