Role of the Social Worker

COURSE OVERVIEW

The role of the contemporary social worker is underpinned by legislation which
grows at an apparently non-stop rate. This course will identify how this role
relates to any health and social care environment and outlines the
expectations organisations have on statutory social workers.

The course will evaluate the legal aspects of the role in relation to Mental
Capacity and Mental Health Law as well as child protection and Safeguarding
legislation.

Social workers are often care managers and commissioners of care services
and this will also be explored in relation to family well being and a wider range
of services including mental health, drug and alcohol, old age, disability and
financial hardship.

Social workers are expected to have a wide knowledge base and use many
theoretical approaches to their work, learners will have an understanding of a
range of these approaches to enable them to work alongside social work
colleagues in a smooth and professional way.

Person Centred Assessment tools are a useful asset to social workers and
these issues will also be covered.
