Safe Working with Sharps

COURSE OVERVIEW

This course raises awareness of the health risks from contaminated sharps and teaches how to handle and dispose of such items safely and legally. It includes practical training in the safe methods of handling sharps and emergency procedures for minimising risk following needlestick injury. Any persons who may in the course of their work encounter syringes, discarded needles etc, should attend this training.

COURSE CONTENT

• Discuss types of health and safety risks caused by sharps to users, the public and people at work
• Explain legal issues when handling and disposing of sharps
• Correct method of picking up, storing and disposing of sharps
• Correct response in the event of needlestick injury
